So, a little story about this whole race idea. A month or so ago, maybe 2, Tyler said "hey dad, what are you doing on new years day..." to which I answered "nothing, what do you want to do?". Silly me. Hence the title, First day of the year, First "official" race, and I am doing it with my first son!
As a result, Beth and Sophie and I ended up going to Corvallis on New Years Eve, and combined the trip with a visit with the Social worker from AWAA regarding Amie's one year post placement report, and a convenient stop at Mom and Curts house for a visit and a place to sleep. Next morning, we all headed to Eugene for "race day".
After registration, Sophie and i were outside the van, I was going to go warm up and run a little bit (in the rain...) and she said "I want to run with you!". We ended up settling for a pre-race photo op and hand holding, but maybe someday snowpea, we can run in a race together (or you can push my wheelchair).

Runners take your mark, get set, GO! and were off. Actually not quite off, it took awhile to weed through the straggle walkers/runners since we were not in the front end of the pack at the line. After they said "GO", we did not cross the starting line until almost 30 seconds had elapsed. Good thing it was timed with ID tokens that record your crossing and not the clock time! You can see Tyler in his Orange OSU shirt... Not to popular in the across the river from University of Oregon! In this photo, both Tyler and I were in FRONT of Jordan (he is in the green shorts right behind Ty), but that did not last long. He passed us up in short order and posted a very respectable time in the low 20 minute range I believe.
I guess little princess snowpea took the "maybe we can run a race someday" quite seriously. After we started, Beth took this photo of the Sophster running on the trail, and she exhibits great stride length and form! I cant wait to run a 5k with her.

The event had winners in each age bracket, Tyler got 3rd in his bracket 20-24 y/o, and Ana's brother Jordan took 2nd in his 25-29 bracket. Great Job Guys, not bad for your first race. Don't ask about my placement in my age group!!
